Large-scale outdoor model of Jerusalem’s Second Temple. The photo shows mostly the temple portion of the Holyland Model of Jerusalem which is a large-scale outdoor model representing Jerusalem at the time of Herod’s reign, and about Jesus’ time. The Second Temple was constructed after the Jewish return from Babylonian exile in 539 BC and was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD. The Second Temple replaced Solomon’s Temple which was destroyed by the Babylonians in 587 BC. The Holyland Model of Jerusalem is located at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
