Brilliant fall foliage surrounds the charming village of Grandes-Piles, Quebec, Canada, where the historic Saint-Joseph Church stands by the Saint-Maurice River. The name of the village literally means Grand Piles, but the exact origin is unknown. It could refer to large piles of logs or rocks that settlers saw on the shore upon arrival, but in any event, it became an important location to the early logging industry.
