The National Capitol Columns at the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington D.C. The columns were originally part of the U.S. Capitol Building. However, when the Capitol Building’s large dome was added in 1866 it made the columns appear small and weak, so they were replaced with larger ones. The original columns were eventually placed at the arboretum.
