Blue is one of the rarest natural colors for flowers; in fact, there is no such thing as a blue rose. Rather aptly, blue as a flower color signifies a dream, or something impossible or difficult to attain. Blue flowers look very attractive in the garden, especially when placed among reds, yellows, and come in different shades of blue, including lilac, light blue and purple. A blue flower display, in addition to making a nice jigsaw puzzle, is also surprisingly common at weddings, perhaps because they are a little bit unusual and striking, although they should complement other colors, rather than be the dominant color. Popular varieties of blue flowers include hydrangeas, asters and hyacinths.
