The ALMA telescope is a powerful new radio telescope located on the high plateau of Chile’s Atacama desert. ALMA stands for Atacama Large Millimeter Array (the word “alma” also means “soul” in Spanish). ALMA is an array of 66 large dish antennas that operate together as a single radio telescope.
