Alcatraz Jigsaw Puzzle

Alcatraz Jigsaw Puzzle

Alcatraz is probably history’s most well known prison. The federal prison sits on a small, rocky island known as “The Rock” in the San Francisco Bay and held many of nation’s most notorious prisoners. Alcatraz was closed in 1963 due to high operational costs and other factors. The island is now run by the National Park Service as a popular tourist attraction.

Alcatraz was considered to be inescapable and no one is known to have successfully escaped. 36 prisoners attempted escape over the years and all but three were either caught or killed. Three prisoners left the island together in 1962 in a daring escape, but it was never known whether they survived the treacherous crossing of the San Francisco Bay’s frigid, shark infested waters.
