Scientists have now determined that our Milky Way galaxy is on a collision course with the Andromeda galaxy. The collision will begin to take place in about 4 billion years. Our sun, and its planets, will end up in a new position within our galaxy, but will not be destroyed. This photo illustrates an enhanced version of what the beginning of the collision will look like in our night sky. Our Milky way galaxy is on the right and Andromeda is on the left.
